A nudge gets Abby’s career off the ground

When she completed her B Comm at Victoria University in late 2022, Abby Martin was keen to stay in Wellington for the career opportunities a big city can provide. But it was while she was home in Whanganui that a family friend suggested she contact Moore Markhams Wellington.

She did and is now happily getting to grips with the day to day of tax returns and other accounting needs of individuals and contractors in business.

“There’s lots of little things to learn, and to drag out of my memory from the years of study, but I’m getting more comfortable and there’s satisfaction from applying things I’ve learnt,” says Abby.

“It was a bit of a shock initially working for a full day and week after the flexibility of studying but I’m really thrilled to be starting my career. I am keen to start studying for my CA qualification later in the year, once I’m more settled in.”

For part of her day, Abby shadows business services manager, You Zhou to watch how he handles client needs to learn about the client advisory side of the business.

“I’m loving being here, I really owe James* for giving me the encouragement to make contact with the Wellington firm.”
