Production Partners Ltd | Providing clients with cut through in competitive markets

In April 2018, Production Partners Ltd will celebrate a decade in business. The company, owned by Lee Shaw, specialises in printing and print management. Lee says taking the headache out of managing the entire printing process across multiple suppliers is Production Partners’ key point of difference.

“When clients want to maintain full brand integrity across all collateral – everything from business cards, brochures, flyers and posters to mugs, apparel and point of sale or even vehicles – rather than trying to co-ordinate the jobs with multiple suppliers, we take care of everything.

“We know where to go, the best pricing available and who are the best suppliers in the market. The client only has to deal with us – it’s a model that creates efficiency and brand consistency. It also makes sense for the accounts department as one supplier invoice is issued for the entire job as opposed to several suppliers, and budgets can be closely monitored,” he explains.

For the past four years, Production Partners has been using a specially designed software that enables a company’s entire branding and marketing collateral inventory to be stored online.

“Our client Turners Car Auctions is currently using the system,” says Lee. “They have 19 branches around the country and we design, print and store every item produced for the company – from branded mugs, pens, to brochures and signage. Each branch can log in and draw down what they need, which we then deliver. This means we control the inventory and can ensure adequate stocks are maintained.”

While Production Partners’ core business is printing and print management, Lee specialises in producing products with a “good point of difference”. “As paper engineers and specialist producers, we can construct packaging, point of sale and all matter of products to give you cut through in a competitive arena.”

For a recent Fieldays promotion, Westpac bank wanted branded hay bales to be displayed in every branch. “While printed hay bales initially sounded impossible, we came up with a solution and sourced the hay bales, polyurethaned them and printed them. We then dispatched them to every branch – they looked fantastic and it proved that with some creative thinking and a lot of experience, we can print on just about anything!”

Over the past nine years, Production Partners has won more than 16 Gold awards at the annual Pride in Print Awards for its innovative approach to printing and paper engineering.

“We are a small team of five and we’re always exploring new ways of doing things. People come to us because they want a point of difference and to get noticed,” says Lee.

Nine years ago, at a BNI networking breakfast, Lee met Moore Stephens Markhams Auckland director Sam Bassett. The two developed a relationship that has lasted nearly a decade and one which Lee values greatly.

“Relationships are vital for good business,” he says. “Moore Stephens Markhams handles our financial accounts, but more than that Sam is a great sounding board – he’s the person I call for his thoughts and opinions on what I should be doing or if I have a question about business. Sometimes when you’re running a company you don’t know who to turn to for advice. For us, Sam is that person.”
