Gearing up to meet growing Queenstown business need

Our Moore Markhams Queenstown has moved into a new office and increased its team from two to five to better meet the growing needs of businesses throughout Central Otago and the Southern Lakes region.

Led by director Heath Copland, the team now calls home an office space in a new healthcare precinct development at Lake Hayes Estate. With plenty of room to accommodate the increased staff number and close to Queenstown’s newest eatery, 11th Avenue by Frank’s, the location is proving popular with clients.

Established in 2019 to better serve existing Moore Markhams clients in the area, the Queenstown office has grown steadily attracting new clients to the point that extra business advisory capacity was needed.

Two new accountants have joined the team - Mandy Xie and Harry Riddell - along with Lara Papi, a recent recruit to handle admin demands and provide accounting support.

Over much of the past three years, Covid-19 challenges have been to the fore for Heath and senior accountant Ryan Hammer as affected business owners seek a sounding board and guidance on ways to manage the impacts and face the ongoing economic challenges.

However, Heath says there are sectors such as construction and property development that are very busy with supporting trades also doing well.

He acknowledges though that the local economy has shrunk due to the downturn in domestic visitors and non-existence of international tourism. There are some businesses really struggling and, in some cases, closing the doors, Heath says.

“I think that now Moore Markhams is embedded in the business community here, we are offering a service that is needed and appreciated. Our growth has been organic, we’re not touting for business, rather it’s coming from referrals and clients that are growing.”
